DVDRW IDE1108 won't read any discs

My DVDRW IDE1108 will no longer read any discs. I can hear it spinning the disc when I insert it, but it will not read it. It will not recognize that there is a disc in the drive. I've tried both DVDs and CD-roms. The drive used to work and just quit without warning signs, error messages, or slowed burning time. I have not recently updated Windows.

Here is what I've tried:
- I checked Device Manager. It shows no issues with the drive & it is enabled.
- I updated the firmware
- I uninstalled the driver and let Windows reinstall it.
- I opened the case, cleaned it with canned air, and made sure all of the cables were snugly in place.
- I checked for spyware, malware and viruses with Norton, Spybot, and AdAware.
- I used a lens cleaning disc. Since it won't actually play discs, I just repeatedly inserted the disc, waited until it was done trying to read, then reinserted it.

Please let me know if you have any more ideas. Thanks!

Re: DVDRW IDE1108 won't read any discs

looks like you have dead DVD drive. try this

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/EN-US/

and if that does not work, try installing your drive in another system to check if it works there. if not, then you are sure it is the DVD drive.

Thanks! I finally decided to just get another drive. Mine is 3 years old and I didn't realize the prices had gone down so much. Also, that whole Lightscribe thing completely flew in under my radar.
