Unable to format mp3 player anylonger

Hello, I purchased a 1 GB Coby MP-C886 MP3 player the other day. I began moving some of my mp3 files onto its drive, however, once it was about 75% full I encountered an error message that prevented me from adding any more mp3 files. I wiped the mp3 player's drive clean and added the same list of songs again to the drive, but I received the same error message after just over 75% of the space was taken up. I had read online that this problem can often be resolved by reformatting the mp3's drive. So I proceeded to reformat it from FAT (its default) to FAT32 and placed the same group of songs on the mp3 player and it worked like a charm - I was able to fill the drive completely with music. However, when I turned on the mp3 unit, I received the error message ''Erro(r)! Reformat Internal Media". I proceeded yet again to reformat the drive, this time to NTFS and once again I was able to fill it to capacity with my mp3 files - however the same error message appeared when I turned the mp3 player on. At this point I pretty much figured that it was a lost cause so I sought to reformat the drive back to FAT and just accepted the fact that I couldn't fill the player beyond the 75% capacity "limit". The problem is that when I tried to reformat the mp3 player back to default settings (it is in NTFS format presently), I received an error message stating that "Windows was unable to complete the format". I have tried more than a dozen times but it has yet to allow me to reformat regardless of the settings I have put. I don't know if the problem has anything to do with the fact that I am running Windows Vista presently, but I was hoping that there is some way for me to restore it back to the way it was? Thank you for your time and patience.

I also tried to see if it could be fixed on my other computer (Windows XP) but my computer wouldn't even recognize the mp3 player.
