DVD/CD-ROM Not Present

Dell XPS210 running Vista with TSST (Samsung) TS-L630 R/RW DVD

The drive appears to working (spins up and shows activity). The drive appears as the F drive under my computer. In Device Manager there is no section for DVD or CD-ROM let alone this specific device. Initial attempts were system restore back to early February as it has been serval months since I last used the drive. Since then I have verified the drive exist and is enabled in BIOS, deleted the upper & lower filters in the registery, checked and reseated cables on the drive side and mother board side. Any suggestions?

Re: DVD/CD-ROM Not Present

Hello rzke80

Welcome to TSF

In Device Manager you should locate the the drive assuming its installed correctly under the DVD/CD-Rom Drives

now check whats installed

1. Start\computer\(Device)
2. Right click and select properties
3. Under hardware tab select the CD-Rom and click properties
4. Then select drivers
5. Update drivers and make sure that its installed correctly then reboot and check to see if its visible

regards

Craig

Re: DVD/CD-ROM Not Present

The device is not present so I couldn't do as you recommended, see screen shot attachments. It used to show up as Drive F on computer but now it has disappeared from there again. Last time this happened I found filters in the registery. Removing them restored it as the F drive. I checked them today and they are not compromised since I last fixed them on Friday. I tried system restore back to Friday but that did nothing to help.
