Windows Explorer Error when opening movie in External HD
Hi All,
I get a "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" message whenever I try to open a movie in my external hard drives. The Error Signature is "AppName: explorer.exe AppVer:6.0.2900.3156 ModName: Unknown ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00000000 I am running Windows XP SP2 on an HP Pavillion a824n 530J Pentium 4 processor I have 2 USB 2.0 in the front and 4 USB 2.0 in the back and a 1394 I am using a Maxtor 3 one-touch USB 2.0 500GB External Hard drive, a WD MyBook 500GB external and a ACOMDATA HD250UFAPE5-72 EXTERNAL HD which is the firewire drive. I have the same problem with all the drives and I have tried switching to different USB ports with same difficulty. It happens with all movie formats Quicktime, WMV, AVI etc. I hope I have given enough info. Any help is appreciated. ![]() Thank You |

Re: Windows Explorer Error when opening movie in External HD
I wanted to add some new information to my dilemma. I tried dragging and dropping a folder with a movie onto my desktop and opening it. When I went into the folder and tried to play the movie I encountered the same error message. I copied the movie out of the folder and then played it with no problem. I cannot play any movies from inside my documents just only from the desktop. So this is an external HD and Folders issue.
Thank you |

Re: Windows Explorer Error when opening movie in External HD
Hey man, I'm experiencing exactly the same problem...
I got like 160GB External HD, since i used bittorrent, I downloaded like movies every night. so I moved them to external HD. yesterday when I open movies folder in the external HD. I got the error message. This is always happen when I tried to open movies, copy, or move it... have you got the solution to this? hmm, how about formatting the HD? have you try it? |

Re: Windows Explorer Error when opening movie in External HD
I am having exactly the same problem. I've had no problems with it at all for months. And this afternoon, it just started crashing. Exactly the same thing. The other hard drive, and a Movie folder.
It's been a few months since you guys posted I think, so if you've found a solution to this problem, PLEASE tell me about it. Thank you. EDIT: Guess I should have kept looking. I found the solution. For anyone else stumbling upon this site with the same problem, it appears changing the view of the icons in the folder from thumbnails, to tiles, fixes the issue. Re: Windows Explorer Error when opening movie in External HD
Download Shellexview from
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/shellexview.html or from the authors website www.nirsoft.com run to see the listing in spreadsheet format. you can sort it to find non-microsoft extensions working with Windows Explorer. in my case, one of the line shows in the list, but the correspoding file was not there. When I clicked the row and selected file properties it showed the file is not there. I disabled that extension( in that line). Then I didn't have any problem. Your situation may vary, you may have file which is not working well with the Windows Explorer, which you can find/relate based on the action you do, which invokes the error message. some more links for your reference. http://www.helpwithwindows.com/techf...r-crashes.html from the above link you can find error related to your situation. Once you fix, please reply back at this forum, what happened and what you fixed. Have a nice day. |
