[SOLVED] CD Drives Not Recognised

OK - A good friend of mine has lent me his laptop, so I could sort out his CD Drives. He has a:

Phillips SPD3000CC External USB DVD Re-Writer

and inside the Toshiba S (S for Satelite) 5200-701 Laptop, a TEAC-224E DVD drive.

Now, both will open and close, and when a disc is put in, you can hear the disc turning in the machine, then after about 5 seconds its stops. On "My Computer" neither of the two drives appear and on Device Manager, they appear, but have the little yellow icon next to them, and on "details" it says about corrupt drivers.

I've tried the external drive on my own laptop, and it works just fine.

So what do I do? I've tried uninstalling the internal drive so Windows will re-install it, but that has made no difference, and the drivers I found for the phillips external (found none for the internal) won't work because it doesn't detect any drives

Re: CD Drives Not Recognised

Update: Updated BIOS from 1.20 to 1.40 from the Toshiba site, still no difference. Can't get into BIOS either, not sure how to on a Toshiba laptop

Re: CD Drives Not Recognised

Try to delete the upper filter and lower filter. Refer to the instructions on this page:

Upper filter/Lower filter deletion

Also, try to uninstall and reinstall the burning software on your computer

See if that do the trick
