MP3/iPod problems!

I'm running on windows xp sp2 here, my usb ports recognize and run fine with my keyboard, webcam and cellphone datacable just fine. But heaven forbid I plug an iPod into it! It causes my system to freeze, forcing me to resort to the reset button on my tower. The anomoly even causes windows to have to reinstall my keyboard, since it somehow causes my computer to "forget" my drivers for my keyboard. I've tried reinstalling iTunes and looking for specific drivers for this thing but crash after crash, rebooting with just the mp3 player, disabling devices and re-enabling them...I can't seem to get the damned thing to work :(. Funny thing is, the iPod docks when the computer is rebooting, but the second windows starts loading, it undocks itself and becomes useless again, doesn't even charge. Can someone make sense out of any of this? I can't seem to come to any conclusion other than something's awefully wrong with windows/my usb hub.
