optical drive problems

about two days ago i purchased starcraft battle chest it came with a 14 day world of warcraft trail so i decided to give WoW a shot when i put the disk in it dident auto play and not wanting to deal with the hassel of trying to get it to work i just turned off my computer and went to sleep (it was like 4 in the morning) so the next day i boot up my computer i was gonna play some cnc but when i put the disk in it dident auto start which i thought was quite odd so i open up my computer (not the case but the software option) to start it manually and instead of saying command and conquer was in the disk drive it said DVD RW Drive 0 bytes free of 5.14gbs also the icon of the disk drive instead of bieng the gdi eagle was just a disk, so my thoughts are that while it recognises the disks it dosent know what they are, also over the past 2 days i have experimented with many disks and have concluded that its about 50/50 if it will realise what disk i have put in it but even if it dosent realise what disk is in it the games stll start

i have no idea what is causing this but any help would be greatly appericated i just want to know if its a problem with my optical drives hardware or if its a software problem and if its a software problem how i can fix it thx in advance
