Cdrw/Dvd Multidrive Error

I tried to replace the original Toshiba CD-RW/DVD-Rom Drive Model SD-R2212 With

Samsung DVD Writer model SN-S082H/BEBN Version H in my laptop.... Toshiba 1410-S173

I get an (IDE #1 Error) message at boot up, the computer then boots up, but no Drive “D” or any Optical Dive shows up in My Computer, Device Manager or System Information. Also Roxio doesn’t recognize a Drive

The BIOS is up-to-date

The Operating System is Win XP SP2 with all updates installed

ACPI BIOS Version 1.40 (Latest)

Device Config. = Setup by OS

Controller Mode = Auto-Selected

CD-Rom = Secondary IDE (170H/IRQ15) Not Adjustable

HDD = Primary IDE (1F0H/IRQ14) Not Adjustable

Any suggestions would be appreciated............

Re: Cdrw/Dvd Multidrive Error

No, the drive is not detected in the BIOS. Also the drive doesn't show up in device manager or EzMC 9. I suspect it may be a master/slave/CSEL issue. Any thoughts???

Re: Cdrw/Dvd Multidrive Error

Did it work right before? Or did it just failed recently?

Re: Cdrw/Dvd Multidrive Error

The original Toshiba CD-RW/DVD-Rom Drive Model SD-R2212 worked fine, but it was only a DVD-Rom drive. I wanted to upgrade to a DVD writer. As soon as I installed the new drive, the error message showed up.

Re: Cdrw/Dvd Multidrive Error

Did you unplugged the previous DVD-Rom before installing the new DVD-writer? It seems like there is no much power for the drive there

Re: Cdrw/Dvd Multidrive Error

Nothing to unplug....slips out after removing screws and put new one in.........samsung advises this is compatible with toshiba model, however, got that ide #1 error message.........slipped that samsung into a sony laptop and it worked fine so it may be a toshiba problem even though it is supposedly compatible.......

Re: Cdrw/Dvd Multidrive Error

Try to unplug it and replug it back. See whether it detected in BIOS again now?
