Sny DW q120A dual layer prob
Hi
I have a sony dw Q120A dual layer dvd writer/rewrite and tried to burn a dl disc last night. However the drive takes the disc in, green light flashes a few times then the drive clcks about every 6 - 1 secs and the pc is effectively frozen. The only way out is to eject the disc. I have previously burnt a dl disc with nero 7, from the same lot I tried last night, in fact all 8 went into the drive all the same result. I was using Nero 8 first then dvdclone2. Any help appreciated. Ken |

Re: Sny DW q120A dual layer prob
Do you have the latest firmware for the Sony? Are you running the latest version of DVDClone2? I have had both Nero 7 and 8 installed at one time. I ended up going back to Nero 6 for the simplicity of the software. Have you tried DVDFAB? Mike
version 2.9.1.5 Great source of info cdfreaks

Re: Sny DW q120A dual layer prob
Hi
I am using PSY 3 firmware which i believe is the latest for the sony Clonedvd is 2.9.0.9 I reloaded nero 7 and it now sees the dl disc but when attempting to get max write speed it says the calibration block is full. not sure what this means. can you shed any light on this, I'll retry later and get the full message ken |

Re: Sny DW q120A dual layer prob
You most often get this error with poor quality media or a dirty len. There is only a very small area for the drive to calibrate the laser, usually this is ample for decent media (a writing strategy is found, the drive is happy and burning continues). With poor media the drive tries over and over again to get a burn its happy with, each try take space so eventually the drive has used all of the calibration area up and has to give up. Mike
Try a test burn first, and use a slower burn speed. I use 4x on DL and 8x on single layer dvds

Re: Sny DW q120A dual layer prob
Hi Mate
thanks for that, still haven't tried to burn another disc Does the cal actually burn to the disc and thus render it useless? I'll try and get round to burning again soon and re-post. It may be, as you say funny media, I bought the dvd's from niovatech, haven't had probs with therir stuff before but always a first time. Is it also woth me trying to clean the lens and if so whtas the best way to do it. Ken |

Re: Sny DW q120A dual layer prob
It burns to a small area, specifically there to calibrate the laser for the burn. When that space gets all used up, the disc is wasted.
Don't forget to look for a firmware update first, or it could just be the drive is dying. Mike
