My CD/DVDRW will not read/write to CDs/DVDs

I'm having trouble reading/writing to any media. I've already tried changing my ide cable, reinstalling my drivers, trying different software, & I'm just kinda stuck now.

are you using a 80 wire cable on the drive with
blue
grey
black plugs
remove the upper and lower filters
scroll down to how here

check for a firmware update for the drive

I've already looked for a firmware update & couldn't find one, also, I didn't have an upper filter to remove but did remove the lower filter & still the same results. I have a standard IDE cable on the drive.

if you mean by standard the old 40 wire change it to an 80 wire
uninstall the drive from the device manager and reboot and check it
uninstall and reinstall your burning software

I've tried every option, and it looks like the drive finally crapped out. I'll just get a new one for $25. Thanks for your help.
