Recover Hard Drive Data

Hey,

My computer just crapped out and me and I need to get the information off of my HD. I would be posting to how to fix this issue with my laptop but I have some serious time constraints for school.

So this issue is, I bought an external HD enclosure and I borrowed a friends laptop. I have everything hooked up properly, logged in under my friends computer (as admin) and I plug in the HD via USB (only connection I got).

I need to access my Documents and Settings > my folder > and then the stuff in my folder like other folders and files. Now I can't access the "my folder" after going in under Documents and settings. It gives the path and then says "Access Denied". Now I am signed in under administrator and I can access the Administrator folder but not mine. And when I go to the properties of that folder it says that theres no files or folders in it. When I know for a fact that I have tons of information under there.

I need to know how to get this information, as fast as possible. I have a FINAL paper on there that I REALLY need. Any assistance would be appreciated. Oh, and I can't boot from it either because that Hardware in my laptop is different from that of my friends. Please get back with me when you know anything. Thank you, I REALLY APPRECIATE IT THANK YOU!!!!

Can't promise a solution but you might want to look this over:
http://www.prosofteng.com/products/d...ue_pc_info.php. It worked for me. Be aware you will need to be able to boot from the CD drive and have an external FAT32 HD to transfer the files onto. A bit pricey (about $129)but if it works it's probably worth it.

Re: Recover Hard Drive Data

Hey thanks,

I heard about this, unfortunitly I don't have that time. I just got an external assigned the appropriate permissions to the folder that wasn't opening, and got all of my data. Thanks bro, I appreciate it.

Re: Recover Hard Drive Data

Hey guys,

I just got my laptop fixed. Motherboard is all better now. Unfortunitly I am having trouble now logging into the proper profile. There is just one on this laptop. It is not connected to a network, or a business laptop. The reason I believe that it created a new profile when I logged in as before, I used this laptops HD as an external HD to recover some files. In order to get at those files I had to assign permissions to it. After doing so I got everything (all my files) and put the HD back in my laptop. Now, I log in and it created a new profile folder. Now, I still log in under the one name, there is just one name to log in under. But now it created another profile that is "my name. computer name" and that is what I'm logged in under. I need to log into the profile that is just "my name". Now... How would I do this?
