removable hard disk problem!

hey guys

I purchased a IBM travel star a few months back to back up some very important files, however when i came to try and look at them yesterday, my computer for some reason will not read the disk anymore!

When i insert the USB, the sound notification of the plug n play bit sounds, and sometimes installing drivers pop up balloon appears, once it says device now ready to use, there is no way i can access the files on the disk.

In my computer there is no drive appeared, and i cant find it anywhere. Have tried every USB port on my computer and a laptop.

It seems to recognise that a USB device can been connected but doesnt seem to want to kick start anything to actually access the files. If it is a mechanical/connecting problem is there anyway of getting the files through some file access software or something?

Any help will be much appreciated!

Thanks
Steve

Re: removable hard disk problem!

for an update, i have just purchased a brand new laptop, and have since tried the hard disk only for it to still not work. The only difference is that in device manager, there is now a listed device, but says Disk1 Unknown and then unreadable below it,so obviously is the hard disk itself. What coud be the problem if the cabling is working correctly? many thanks for any help
