DVD +RW won't burn DVDs

I just got a DVD +RW for my Dell Latitude D600. It's a NEC ND-6100A. I'm running Windows XP with SP 2. It will burn CDs just fine and plays DVDs fine but when I try to burn a DVD it won't burn at all.

I've tried both Nero 8 and Ashampoo burning studio 7. I first tried using Memorex DVDs and then Sony. Both give me the same errors.

When I try Nero, it says power calibration error. When I try Ashampoo, it just says it failed to write.

I checked for firmware updates but it seems the one I have is current (104D).

Any suggestions?

Re: DVD +RW won't burn DVDs

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
What type of media are you using to burn DVD+R or DVD-R. This drive does not support DVD-R for burning (It will read both though).
Here is a link that may help you:
http://support.dell.com/support/edoc...4/en/intro.htm
Also, what are you trying to burn to the DVD CD?
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Bill

Re: DVD +RW won't burn DVDs

Thanks for your reply.

I checked to see what kind of blank DVD's I should be using before I bought them. I am using DVD +R. The Sony's say that they can be burned at any speed from 1X to 16X. I have tried 2.4X, 4X, and 6X and all speeds give me the same error.

I am trying to burn a movie that I ripped off one of my DVD's onto my computer.

Re: DVD +RW won't burn DVDs

post your system specs including the power supply details
it sounds like when it goes to pull more power for burning it's not there

Re: DVD +RW won't burn DVDs

Hi,
Here is a trouble shooting guide:
http://support.dell.com/support/edoc...en/trouble.htm
Be sure no screen savers or other applications are running during the burn process.
Try and burn another DVD (not the movie you ripped) and see if it burns.
Thanks,
Bill
