Can't read DVD-R

Hello,

I am running XP Professional Edition with SP2. I brought some CD-R and DVD-R from Woolworths, woolworths make. Now my CD-R work fine but when I put in a DVD-R it says it has no free space and no space has been used, now do you think it is faulty disks or is it my computer and if it is my computer how can I fix it? If it is my disks which brand do you reccomend I buy?
