"read only" problems
I was transfering files from my hard drive to a rw disc. Everything was working fine and then when I switched to my next file, suddenly the info on my disc turned to "read only". Why did it do this and how do I fix it so that I can write on it again?

Re: "read only" problems
Hello Looney, welcome to TSF
Are the files being open on the same computer they were created on, and by the same user? A simple way to change the read only attribute is to right click on the file, then uncheck the 'Read Only' Box, but since they're on a disk, this might not work.

Re: "read only" problems
HI Jack,
Thanks for the welcome. Yes, the disc and the files were all created on the same computer. I've tried the right click and cleared all of the read only boxes and it still won't let me write to the disc. It was fine this morning when I transfered some data, it changed when I tried to transfer a new file (all from the same source). Do you know what causes this problem? |

Re: "read only" problems
I don't know what the cause is, I'm just walking through the basic things until someone who knows what the cause is replies
I think, because it's a CD, you won't be able to just edit and save the files directly on it, you may need to copy the file to your HDD, edit and save it there, then move it back to the disk.

Re: "read only" problems
It could be the brand of cd. Some will only let you write to it one time, no matter if there is room or not, so if it is not a part of the intial writing, it won't do it. Agravates the snot out of me
