hi,
the computer started to do this for what appears to be no aperent reason about 2 weeks ago, when i inserted a blank cd into the drive for burning, using wmp 11. The machine just completely froze and I had to turn it off at the wall to reboot. and ever since any cd or dvd i insert into the drive does exactly the same thing as soon as the drive tries to read the content. I doubt this is a software problem although I maybe wrong, has anyone ever heard of a virus or driver faults doing something like this? A friend of mine believes the lazer to of gone inside the drive but he hasn't had time to examine it so he's just blind guessing. it's only 3 months old and i don't see why that would cause it to lock up the way it does anyway. I guess i'm just making sure it's not something that i'm missing before i go out and have to buy and install a new DVD drive. Thanks for your help!
