[SOLVED] reads but doesn't burns

CD/DVD-rom of my sisters's pc reads data very well but when I try to burn any cd, it hangs after few percents completed(but actually cd is empty) and I can't stop burning without restarting computer. I use Nero, but I guess it is hardware problem, isn't it?

Re: reads but doesn't burns

Hi and welcome to TSF.
It does look like your hardware, although it could be the drivers or firmware. Just to rule out any problems with Nero try a different program. A good free one is ImgBurn from here. If you still have no success then we can start looking at your drive.

Re: reads but doesn't burns

I tried ImgBurn, I wait for few minutes but there was 0 percent completed although buffer was used in 100 percent. And all the same, I can't quit the program without restarting pc :(

Re: reads but doesn't burns

How old is the CD/DVD drive? From my own experience they don't last much above two years.

Re: reads but doesn't burns

It is more than 3 years. So it means that I should change my CD/DVD drive, doesn't it?

Re: reads but doesn't burns

It's looking that way. Have you tried updating the driver and firmware?

Re: reads but doesn't burns

Go to the manufacturer's website and look under either support or downloads. Better still, let me know what model it is and I'll check for you.

Re: reads but doesn't burns

Hi. Click here and download the firmware. You may have to re activate your copy of Windows afterwards. If this doesn't solve the problem, then it looks as though your drive has come to the end of it's life.

Re: reads but doesn't burns

I updated the driver, but it does the same things - hangs while writing and doesn't write in anything.
However, thank you for your kind help;)

Re: reads but doesn't burns

That's a shame, but it was worth a try. Fortunately drives are way down in price now.
