USB storage devices not working
I built a computer around an Asus M2N4-SLI motherboard running Windows XP SP2 about a year ago and it's always worked fine. I've been using a Transcend 1gb flash drive and a 120gb hard drive in a generic USB enclosure for quite a while with no trouble. Randomly, one day, they both stopped working on this PC.
When I plug them in, Windows will make the "new device detected" sound, it'll show the popup saying its scanning for media and what not, shows up in explorer. Then, as soon as the media scan is done, it makes the "device disconnected" sound and it disappears from explorer. Key points: -It seems all USB mass storage devices are affected -Both devices work on my other computers -All non-mass storage USB devices work fine on this computer -I've tried all my devices on all the different USB ports on the computer -They both worked ON THIS computer before and still do on all other computers -All other USB devices still work It seems to me this almost has to be a driver or software issue. I've been screwing around for hours without finding a way to fix it though. Thanks in advance! jared. |
