Mistake ...Files waiting to be written to cd...

Hello,
...problem... And probably a pretty dumb one. I recently had to do a Dell "system restore" on my PC. Before actually doing this, I attempted to save all of my "important" files to disc. (can you see where this is going?...) I proceeded to drag and drop the files (music, pictures,Word documents...etc) to disc DVD-R to be exact. Anyways, system restore happens, and then I put the discs back in to restore all of my files back on to my PC. Only to find that the files I thought I had saved were not there. Absolutely floored, I was. Years worth of "digital" pics ...etc GONE! I had phoned Dell to see if there was any sort of data recovery solutions w/ my computer that could be done. But, there was none. My wife was going to kill me. But he DID say that the files would have an image on the DVD-R disc "waiting to be written to CD". A glimmer of hope, I searched high and low to find some sort of CD Data Recovery program on the net to save my hyde. Alas, I stumbled across one that found these "images", therefore allowing me to save the files back to my computer. All is good....right? No, I've done it again. The very same thing, only this time I cannot find the program that helped me before. I have the very same discs that I was able to pull from before. But I am not having the same luck I did last time. Sorry about the long winded story, I just wanted to clerify my situation as best I could. Is there anyone out there that can help me out? ...please...

I can't quite help with your situation, but I have a few suggestions. If I assume correctly, the system restore you're using is accessed through system tools. If that's the case, it does not delete any of the files that the user created, so your pictures should still be where you left them.

Also, you can't just drag and drop files onto a dvd, you'll need software to allow you to burn data to a dvd. You can however drag and drop files onto a CD and burn it that way.

Re: ...Files waiting to be written to cd...

Hey Jack,
Thanks for your reply. I assure you the files that I spoke of, ARE "somewhere" on this DVD/R. I have salvaged them once before. Maybe using the term "drag and drop" was not correct. The system restore wasn't the Windows based one that you are speaking of. This one is a Dell Original Configuration system restore. Bringing it back to the "out of the box" state. Anyways, if you or anybody else has any idea which program I could use to retrieve those files I would be ever so grateful.
