I have just finished installing Battlefield Vietnam. During the installation process an insert disk 2 to continue installing window would pop up and when i inserted disk 2 it would say that it was the wrong disc and i could tell the driver was having trouble reading the disc because of the struggling noise it was making. However, it finally did recognize the rest of the cd's for the installation process and now my D: drive will not recognize any cd's i insert (even the windows installation cd) which is freaking me out because if i need to reformat my computer i dont know how to do that any other way. plz somebody help explain to me what i can do to make my computer recognize cd's again!!!!!

Form your description it sounds more like "Battlefield CD-drive"

Do you have a spare CD-drive, or can you borrow one and replace the unwilling drive temporary with this one? It should be a known good drive, otherwise we'll replace one uncertainty with another.

It could be that the disk was not 100% inserted in the tray, and that the head was "hit"; therefore I want the temporary replacement!

haha. yea fortunately I do have an identical computer with the same cd drive on my fathers machine. I am going to try replacing mine with his and see if that fixes it. Thank you for your support

ok i tried my other drive and it recognizes cd's in my computer
if i wanted to buy a new external cd/rw drive for my laptop should i buy it from gateway to be safe and i usually get a message that my usb ports are not high speed would that make a difference and if so how should i assess this situation?
