Exclamation [SOLVED] CD-RW Drive Malfunction

Yesterday I had a CD shatter while in the drive. I was viewing some video files on the CD and when I stopped it to take it out, I heard a loud pop sound and the CD tray wouldn't come out...so I opened it manually and pieces of the CD fell out. But only a few. So I know there are still pieces of it in there, and the tray won't go in all the way. Is there anything I can do?

Re: CD-RW Drive Malfunction

Is this a desktop computer or a laptop?

Re: CD-RW Drive Malfunction

I just realized my original post was very lacking in information. The computer is a desktop. It's a Compaq that I purchased at Wal-Mart in August of 06. It's less than a year old. I have never had trouble with the CD drive like that, or the CD's themselves. I'm not sure what caused the CD to break or the CD drive to cause that either.

a crack in the disk, you will probably have to replace the drive

Re: CD-RW Drive Malfunction

thank you to those who posted, I ended up taking the old CD-RW/DVD-ROM out of my old computer (Manufactured in Jan of 2003) and putting it into the new computer (from 2006) everything seems to be working fine.

I also took that time to take out the CD-RW that was messed up and opened up and got all the little CD pieces out and so if I ever need something else I have it there as an emergency only, but I doubt it's going to do a whole lot of good.

Thanks for the replies! I appreciate it!
