Guys Help Meeee
HEY fellas, im new to this forum, and im really hoping you guys can help me out. i recently bought a alienware Laptop..here are some of the specs
Intel Pentium M 1.73GHZ Centrino Processor nVidia 6600GO Video Card ( 128) 128MB Dedicated Video Memory RAM 1GB DDR2 8X Dual Layer DVDRW+- Drive 100GB IDE Hard Drive 802.11g Internal Wireless Card Gigabit 10/100/1000 Network Card Vista Home Premium so now the problems, actually this entire computer is a problem, everything is wrong with it, i always thought alienware was supposed to be the best but i was sooooo wrong, so anyway the dvdrw+- drive that came with it is an "aopen isu8484g" ..it reads all types of cd's and dvds perfectly but it wont write a thing, so i updated the firmware and with the update package there was a text file telling you which media brands are compatible with the drive, and guess what some of those brands are completely unheard of i checked everywhere, even ebay, cant find a thing, all i ever find are your regular memerox, sony, maxell brands..is there any generic drivers that can make the dvd burner write all or most media brands..? |

Re: Guys Help Meeee
Hi I've been having similar problems and am still waiting for an answer. I was also told that optical drives can go bad very quickly and it could be malfunctioning(just a thought). The only thing I can tell you is to be patient and hope that one of these wonderful people on this forum(that are smarter than me!) will be able to help you. I will keep looking and if anything is found, I will let you know.
Best of luck and hope you will receive a lot of help like I have.

Re: Guys Help Meeee
Your burner should write to ALL brands of Media if it is working right, get agood quality brand and try them (get rewrites so you can use them over and over in tests till you get it working).
I had the best run on cd's from an unknown brand I purchased on ebay (100%) and some of the top brands about 75-80%

Re: Guys Help Meeee
thanks so much for the replies fellas..well im like you said it should read/write all medias but like i said before i went on the manufacturers website and there was a pdf file that listed the brands that the drive can write and they were brands i never heard of...i searched everywhere for updated firmware..no luck, and to answer your question im using nero the latest one.and alcohol 120%. though i cant find the specific brands of media listed i just try whatever i have,,sony memorex etc..so say im trying to burn an image file..it starts reading..most of the time around 8-11% it would say an error as occurred but doesnt specify and if the error doesnt occur then it continues burning and finishes only to find out that the disk is totally empty..honestly im sick of it, alienware tech support isnt helping me, i paid over 2000$ for this garbage...but again thanks for your help, im glad you guys actually replied..i tried other forums before this one..my post would have hundreds of views but no replies..hhaha again thanks..1 more question.if i were to just forget about this problem and buy a slim external dvdrw burner which would you guys recommand

Re: Guys Help Meeee
What type of image are you trying to burn, is it an .iso image because if it is it will not burn unless you use a program like Magiciso.
Have you tried to read the burnt image on another dvd player?
