computer hang when access floppy disk drive

When i open windows explorer and click the floppy drive(with diskette inserted), the windows explorer will hang. i press CTRL + ALT + Delete and End task the windows explorer .

This happen also when access the floppy drive in other application like MS Word and so on.

Everytime this happen, i need to restart the computer, then it will work just fine. But sometime need to restart more then one time.

By the way, this situation does not happen everytime.

The computer is running windows ME.

So when you reboot the computer, are you saying you can access the floppy disk?

Can the floppy disk be opened on a different computer? If not, it is possible the floppy has corrupted or infected data on.

You could try formatting the floppy - if you need help how to, just reply

After reboot the computer i can use the floppy drive again. There are no problem with the diskette and no problem with the floppy drive. I try to change another working floppy drive and problem still occur.

By the way, i have another computer with the same model, also has this problem. do not know why?

And there are problem with the mouse pointer too. Sometime after using the computer for a while the pointer will become a black box.

I already try to turn off the hardware acceleration at Display Properties > Setting > Advance > Troubleshoot, but the pointer problem still occur. Both of the computer also have the same problem.

Do you know what is the problem? help!

If the device manager shows clean, with no yellow alerts, look for an infected floppy disk.
Viruses can be transfered via disks. What is your infection protection?

My computer running AVAST Home Edition and is updated. No yellow alerts at device manager.
