switched CD drives with another computer

hi,

I recently bought a used computer and the CD drive was only a DVD drive. in my other computer, it was a CD-RW drive. they were both dells so I just popped out the drives and switched them, hooked them back up. they power up and work and CDs read and play fine and everything, but I still can't burn on the CD-RW drive in the new computer. my question is: is there some sort of software or driver support or something I need to download for this new CD-RW drive to be able to burn?

any help would be appreciated. thanks so much!

Re: switched CD drives with another computer

CD-RW do need a burning program to work such as Nero, Roxio. If you have XP it does have a program built in. Right click on the file you want to burn>send to>then you should see your CD-RW Drive. The file will then be copied to XP's burning program and ask you if you want to burn them to CD. You just follow the wizard from this point on. You can save multiple files on one cd as XP does not "finish" the CD as some other programs due.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Bill

You are going to need Burning software to burn from Itunes. Try to see if a word document will burn on the XP program, It should. The only thing you will be able to burn from Itunes is a compressed file that is in your itunes lib. folder. You can burn this folder using XP, but only Itunes will play it.
If you want to burn a music CD you will need burning software.
Thanks,
Bill
