EEK! MP3 Player FRIED MY PORTS!!?

Hello... i am a newbie to all of this with basic computer knowledge so would like anyone to share any opinions they have on whats happened to my damn comp!!? sorry if this thread should be somewhere else!

It goes like this... A friend asked me to put some music from my computer onto his Matsui mp3 player, simple enough it is just a 1Gb usb stick so should be straightforward... as soon as i put it in, the computer made a strange noise (as if it was dying) but stayed on, now none of my usb ports work, or the old style keyboard or mouse sockets, its as if it has fried all the other things from working! i think the hard drive still works.. as does the monitor, because when i try and turn it on it gets to asking for my password but as no keyboard or mouse will work i'm stuck!!

if anyone could shed any light on whats happened or what i need to do i would be very grateful!!

Re: MP3 Player FRIED MY PORTS!!?

How is he sposta do that if the keyboard doesnt work???

You could try unplugging it and taking out the battery on the motherboard for a couple hours. That would reset the bios settings and may be some help.

I know at school, on the STAFF computers, if you plugged in something that used the 5 volt line in the USB jack, it wasnt worth counting on. Countless USB failures from teachers trying to use jump drives. The only way arund it was a PCI USB controller and/or a powered USB hub and/or an external hard drive with seperate power adapter.

PCI-E requires 26 amps at 12 volts. That's a 650W PSU.
