Disc Reading problem need urgent help

Hello This is my first time here so I may not know everything about this site but I need urgent help.

Just recently my cd drive could not read any disc of any type, although it shows up in my computer reporting that there is no disc in the drive (i.e. DVD-RW Drive (D:)) even though I have a autorun disc in the drive (WinXP Disc) I am less worried about the autorun and more concerened about the fact that my drive does not read any disc of any kind. When I try to access it in Command prompt it just says "Device is not ready" Unfortunatly, I can't remember the exact date it started, so I can't remember what I may have done to cause this problem. I have tried updating the driver, reinstalling the driver, updating the firmware, even updating the SATALink controller but to no avial. My entire computer is custom built and all parts were bought at the same time. So the computer is about 1 year old. I have read that over time the drive can stop working but 1 year seems really short, especially since I dont use it very often. I have swapped SATA cables and reset CMOS, configured BIOS for sata and everything I can think of but it refuses to read any disc. When I put a disc in, the light comes on for about 5 seconds with a small hum like normal and the cusuor starts showing respone for a while then everying stops like nothing happened. I want to know if it is repairable or I need to replace the drive (Which I really dont want). I would really appreciate any help at all.

Motherboard-M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless edition-Socket AM2
Hard drive-WDC WD 2500 KS
CPU-AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200
GPU-Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT
Chipset-NForce 590
SCSI and RAID Controller-Silicon Image SiI 3132 SATALink Controller
CD Drive- Plextor PX-755SA

(I know this has a compatability issue with my motherboard but that is only for RAID and IDE but it confirmed that 1 SATA Disc drive was ok, that is how I have been using this drive since I bought the parts and have had no problem untill now)

Please, any help will be appreciated.

Re: Disc Reading problem need urgent help

I think you need to replace your drive. If you can, plug it into another computer. I think you'll find it won't work there, either. Sometimes optical drives simply die young.
