DVD Drive dissappears after i install chipset drivers

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone can help me.

Recently built a new pc:

Gigabyte 965p-ds3 mobo
e6300 cpu
2gb geil pc2-6400 ram
600w psu
plextor px-712a dvd drive
seagate barracuda 160gb sata hdd

installed xp on it and it works fine, until i go to use the cd with the chipset drivers on it which came with the mobo. it recognises the cd, installs all of the drivers from it, reboots my comp, but then when i get back onto xp my dvd drive has just dissappeared, it doesnt show up on 'my computer' or device manager, and any disk i put in to the drive makes no difference and nothing happens, its as if its saying havent even got one.

any help would be appreciated, thanks

Hi Jimbo
Have a look in Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> System Information> Components> CD-ROM and Problem Devices for some info.
What does it say in Device Manager under CD Drives?
Have you checked to see if it's recognised in bios?
Press F2 or Delete, or whatever it advises to press onscreen to "Enter Set-up".

Do you have the plextor pinned as a master drive with a stand-alone cable to the motherboard?

Re: DVD Drive dissappears after i install chipset drivers

Jimbo, I just had the same problem on a newcomputer that I built, Windows Vista OS, Gigabyte MB with updated chipset drivers. I can see my CD RW, DVD ROM & DVD RW in the device manager, but for some reason it is calling them SCSI devices and claiming it cannot find the correct drivers. I am not sure if it is the same problem, but it seems suspiciously similar. I plan to go to the Gigabyte website after this and ask them about known problems. I hate to roll the drivers back, but am thinking that is probably going to be the best solution barring something from Giga. Please let me know if you find a better solution. V/R S.
