[resolved]Plextor DVDR PX-716A (RESOLVED)
I have the DVDR that's listed in the title of this thread that's starting to make me a little frustrated. On several DVD's (even unscratched ones) i could be watching a movie, and the movie will just lock up the whole computer. I cannot move the mouse, can't get to the device manager, and i can't alt + F4 it. You have to hold the power button down until the PC turns off, then reboot. The reset button on the front of the PC also does not work. I have tried watching a DVD with Roxio DVD player, and also the built-in windows media player, and it does it to both. Could this mean that my dvd player is going out, or does this sound more like a software issue with windows?
system info: AMD Athlon XP 3200 1ghz DDR PC-3200 ram 100gig HD space 550watt power supply nvidia 128mb GDDR3 video card Plextor DVDR PX-716A DVDR while i await input, i will go reinstall the software for the drive. future thanks for any info! |

Could you list the model of your PSU ? just because it says 550w it doesn't mean it can handle your requirements, and as another thought, have you tried updating the firmware of the drive ? it may be possible there is a bug in your current firmware that may be causing this, see if this helps.

Re: Plextor DVDR PX-716A
thank you for your response, however i haven't had time to update this thread since i was working on it til 1am and had to get up at 8 to go to work.
I don't know exactly WHICH part did it, but i did manage to fix it. I had pulled out the dvd player, opened up the tray, and used the canned air in just about any hole available to put the straw piece near or into.. canned air on the connectors and where it plugs in on the rom and the motherboard, and even moved the drive to another bay, thinking it's possibly overheating somehow? i also reseated and aired off the power cable connectors and so on. there was a decent amount of dust. the other things i did, was uninstall any software related to the drive (the cd that came with the drive) and uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers for the drive in the device manager. After all that, i fired it up, and nervously played a dvd. but it played all the way through with no problems! btw, my PSU is the ultra x-connect X2 SLI 550watt modular unit. http://www.frozencpu.com/products/32...?tl=g11c26s213 mine is like that w/o the windows. |

Well thats a model I don't know so I can't comment on it personally, maybe someone else can say if it's a good make or not.
But at least your sorted, it wouldn't surprise me if it was a combination of all your actions that did it, I suggested someone else to blow the dust out of their set up a few months back and it cured their problem as well, but your now cured which is the main thing, one thought for you if your using the flat ribbon type leads get yourself some round leads, they will help air flow a lot. |
