Suprised Unable to read data on 8GB Simpletech minidrive

Hi there,

My specs :

Dell Inspiron 6000 Laptop
1.7 Ghz
1 GB RAM
Windows XP SP2 Home
Mobile Intel 915GM/GMS Chipset Integrated Graphics

I am having a problem getting my PC to recognize my USB flashdrive. It's a "Simpletech 8GB mini drive". When I plug it into the computer (or any computer for that matter) it does not show up in My Computer. I only see my HDD and DVDROM. I've tried also going into Disk Management to see if it shows up there.

In Disk Management it shows up as :
Disk 1
Unknown
7.45 GB
Not Initialized

Then on the side where is normally says "Healthy" it says Unallocated.

I've looked around on the MS support pages and can't find exactly what to do. I'm nervous about Intializing the Disk for fear of losing all data. I can't seem to find out if Initialzing will format the disk and erase all data.

Another thread on here a user recommended installing iRecover 2.1 to try and get data back, but when I ran it it just times out and sits at 0% forever.

All my important pictures from Thailand on are this drive!! I just got back today.. anyone who can please help!! No idea what to try next.

Thanks
Graham
