Sony DVD RW DRU-120C problem..!!!!!!!!!!

Hello All,

This is my first post.

I have a Sony DVD-RW DRU-120C model.

It was working fine for sometime.

All of a sudden whenever i burn a 4.7GB DVD it takes about 35 minutes to burn.Previously it was working fine & it would take a maximum of 15 minutes to burn a 4.7GB DVD.I am finding this strange. It takes the same time of more than 30 minutes for all type of content i burn.

First i thought it might be because of any virus in my comp that is affecting the burning speed. So i scanned my comp using Avast AV & removed some virus, adware, spyware etc etc..........

Now my comp's performance seems better. But stil when i burn the DVD it takes more than 35 minutes.....So i thought i could uninstall Nero 7 ultra edition & then reinstalled it...thinking this will solve the poblem........But nothing has changed........Still the DVD takes more than 35mins.....

The only option i still didnt try is to format my hard drive & reinstall the OS....
But thats my last option as am in a situation where i cant try this .I also tried searching for firmware updates for the DVD drive.but there s no new firmware updates.....So now i dont know what to do...

Is this a problem with the drive.....has something gone wrong....???
Could some one help me out of this.........Suggest a solution to restore the drives burning speed to less than 15mins........Or is there any changes i need to do in my Win Xp OS or Nero............please some one help..........I dont have patience when my drive that was writing in 15mins....taking upto more than 35 minutes........please help.......

Here are my system specs:

Win XP SP2.

pentium D dual core processor...2.8Ghz...1GB RAM....

Nero 7 Ultra [ this one was bundled with the drive ]

Sony DVD RW - DRU120C Dual LAyer support,speed 16X.

Anymore info needed.....Plz help me on this issue.........

Thanx & Regards,

Cyberwarrior.

Re: Sony DVD RW DRU-120C problem..!!!!!!!!!!

i use the same software and as a thought-though i think you already know this-has the speed you burn your discs with changed from say 16x down to 4x-this would explain the slower speed

Re: Sony DVD RW DRU-120C problem..!!!!!!!!!!

i very much doubt this issue warrants a format-at worst the drive is on the way out-though we're not at that stage yet

im no expert on nero but in the tools section of it you can carry out some tests to see how your drive is working-it may be a good idea to have a go at that

i wonder if it might help to reinstall the drivers for it-anything is worth a try

Re: Sony DVD RW DRU-120C problem..!!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried going into the options settings to the left of the nero screen-there is a tab marked "expert features"-try clicking on the "restore defaults " to take nero back to its original settings

what settings do you have your nero set on-track-at once/disc at once?

Im no expert at this but i would browse through all the settings-i very much doubt this problem is cause for a format

start>control panel>system>hardware>device manager

see if there are yellow exclamation marks

control panel>click on "add hardware"-see if anything comes up

have you tried removing the ide cable on the drive and then replacing it again

windows update?......i would try everything before i threw the towel in.....even trying the drive on another pc to see if it has the same problem-if it has...then you know its most likely the drive having its last days!

Re: Sony DVD RW DRU-120C problem..!!!!!!!!!!

Hey.

I am having the exact same problem with this drive. I even went as far as to buy another one...

Guess what. It happened again, and this time, after only 4 copies.

What sucks is, the disc I'm making copies of, (A personal project DVD amounting to 1.7GB) would take just 3 and 1/2 minutes to burn.

NOW, after the craziness that has happened, again apparently, it takes about 18-20 minutes.

WHAT IS GOING ON?

I'm going to contact SONY. If I find out anything useful, I'll drop it down this way.

Re: Sony DVD RW DRU-120C problem..!!!!!!!!!!

Alright, I called up SONY.

For the tech support for this model drive, the number is,
1-800-597-5649

They were able to send me a link to a downloader that ensured the drive was correctly installed, and that the drivers were ok.

Plus, they went through some stuff in the Device Manager that I think might have helped. My second drive is now working fine... but the first one still is slow. I'm going to call them back.

Hope this was helpful to anyone having this same problem!
