160GB Removable HP External Hardrive

I just recieved the external hardrive in the mail. When i attempt to install the software and error message comes up:

*Access Violation at address 7C913144 in module 'ntdll.dll'. Write of address 00459FC9*

Now, without the software, obviously i can't use the hardware. Anyone have a solution? Please tell me that you do not need an HP PC to use their exteranl hardrives.

You should not need to load the software for XP. Just plug in the drive and see if it pops up.
Please post make/model of the drive when you post back.
