SD Memory Card

hi. i am running windows xp media center edition on a hp. it has the sd slot in the front. i was using a 1gb sd memory card for my photos but then i found a deal on amazon, $20 for 2gb. so i bought it. i didn't know that it was coming from south korea when i bought it. long story short, i have a sandisk 2gb memory card that won't be read by my computer and i have some important photos on it. how can i get my computer to read the memory card or at least how can i get the photos off the memory card? i know the drive isn't broken because i can still read my 1 gb memory card which also holds photos. thanks for any help.

Idea Re: SD Memory Card

Just helped someone with a similar issue the other day, turned out they got a new card reader and it was then able to read the card, your being able to read it on another machine suggests it may be the same for you.

Re: SD Memory Card

it works with my 1gb memory card though. does it still mean it could be my card reader? (i am just hesitant to open my computer and mess something up)

Re: SD Memory Card

Hi,
I'm pretty sure you got the same problem as me - your card reader is not able to read cards with a higher capacity than 1GB. My 2GB SD card will not work on my laptop, but a 512MB one will.
When you buy a SD card reader, you must check that it compatible with the high capacity cards.

Re: SD Memory Card

is there any way to hook a higher capacity reader up without going inside the computer? (such as a usb attachment)

You can get USB card readers, which aren't too bad...
Just search in eBay, USB SD Card reader, you'll find one.
They are pretty cheap as well.
Check that it is compatible with 2GB cards though, if it doesn't say in the auction, ask the seller.
