Have you burned any dual layer dvd's?
I have a dual layer burner but i havent done any dual layer yet. It seems to me that i have read that some people are experiencing problems so i thought i would ask you people out there. Who has burned dual layer media and did you have any problems burning or reading them after they were burned? Are standard dvd players able to read dual layer dvds?
Anything special a person should do when burning to dual layer media? thanks |

Re: Have you burned any dual layer dvd's?
Since you won't have an RW disk that you can erase, I suggest you do a simulated or test write first to check for any potential errors. Dual layer DVDs are expensive now, so you don't want to waste them.
Also, I would burn at 2x just to be safe to further reduce the chance of an error. Dual Layer DVDs have many more tracks than standard DVDs, so the chance of an error occurring at the same burn speed is higher. BTW, I have never used a dual layer DVD on a CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive. Only on DVD DL burners. It should be able to read them though.

Re: Have you burned any dual layer dvd's?
Thats one of the reasons for my post, to see what others have to say about wether their dvd players or standard non-dual layer dvd burners will read duals ok or not, or if people are having any kinds of problems. I know some of us havent tried yet but there are always those ahead of the curve, so i hope to hear from some of them.

Re: Have you burned any dual layer dvd's?
Hi,
This is my first experience of DVDs, let alone dual layer ones. The first few I burned were fine and I loaded about 7 gig of photos (JPEG) onto each. Last week, I tried doing exactly the same (this time with TIFFs) and not only did I get burn errors after 30 minutes, but the PC stopped responding and, when rebooted, didn't recognise that it even had a DVD drive at all. It took several reboots before it could be persaded that the drive existed and when I attempted to brun the files again I always get a verify error. Perhaps there really is data corruption in one of the files on my hard drive, but the error message doesn't identify where this might be. After talking with other people, I have learned that DL burning software isn't very reliable and that my troubles are nothing special. |
