opening cd drawer causes shutdown
Nearly every time my daughter tries to open the cd drawer her computer reboots by itself. She is using XP which I just upgraded to the SP2. She is on my home wireless network, but does not have access to the internet, only file sharing. How can I determine the cause/solution to this problem, especially since I cannot utilize the internet directly for assistance?

The system specification would be a help, especially the PSU, you'll need to open the case and look for a sticker probably, also if you can install and run Everest in my sig on there and see what the system temperatures are and let us know, also you don't mention if anything else shows when it shuts down, does it go to blue screen ? with a message ? or simply reboots ?
I suspect the PSU ATM personally, it's as though the extra draw on power to open the drawer is taking it over the edge, so a mention of any extras it may be running (external drives etc) along with the rest of the info would help to see if this may be the case. |

Re: opening cd drawer causes shutdown
I appreciate the help, but you will have to use layman's terms for me. I have been able to learn quite a bit about computers over the years, but I don't know all of the correct terminology!
I looked at the Everest link, but it said the freeware had been removed. I downloaded PC Wizard which seemed to indicate it did the same things. What specific information am I looking for? When opening the CD drawer, the system simply reboots with no messages. I tried it three or four times. The first time I opened the drawer, it opened as usual, but the other times caused it to reboot. There are no other extras running on it. |
