CD-RW that no is no longer RW?

I made a quick CD using a RW which I have used on several occasions, but for some reason now, it won't let me clear the CD. It IS a CD-RW because I have used it and cleared it before.

Installed Nero, still no dice. Nero won't pick it up as CD-RW. Think my disc is done.

Is it sensible to assume it is just the disc? It definitly isn't new, and it's fairly scratched up. I tried cleaning it but, still, there's a lot of scratches.

RW disks don't last for ever. Some don't even make it the first time around.
One thing that I have noticed that kills them quicker than anything is changing the recorder that you usually use to write them.
Having changed writers a few times I found that with the first attempt to erase and write a new CD on a differnt drive they were finished! If I did manage to get past the erase cycle, even at x2, the chncaes are that they would not finish the mainwrite procedure.
Whatever rw disks I had I gradually used them to write stuff on them for other people then give them away. especially at todays prices of cdr ..

I think that's a different kettle of fish but it's a good example .. I a just talking about common PC RW CD's and writers. I always thought that there was a standard and anything written on a machine could be read and re-writen on any other machine .. but it seems not ..
