dell 16X DVD-ROM DRIVE
My sister bought a new computer that is a dell dimension 1100 with a dell 16X DVD-ROM DRIVE that is showing not installed and we cant seem to download any drivers or firmware for it. It is in the tower but is not picking up or reading anything and not showing in her computer system information at all. there is an error message on start up something to the effect that secondary boot device is not installed press f1 to continue or f2 for setup.
we tried to install a burner and added the burner which didnt want to work so we took it out at which point the dvd rom which was not unplugged or moved in anyway stopped working. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You would appear to have a Sony DDU1615 HH 16X DVD ROM in there, >>>Here<<< is the downloads page for your machine from what I can make out, but the drive doesn't use drivers the way say a graphics card would, the drivers are automatically supplied by the OS, the problems your explaining suggest that your drive is not being seen by the PC, thats why you can't install it, did it ever work ? and how old is it ? I ask as messing with it under warranty could invalidate it and it isn't worth the hassle\risk, just let them sort it out.
Otherwise I would recheck the cables are OK, then I would enter the bios and tell it to auto scan for any drives, see if it picks it up that way, if it does it should install next boot, if it still doesn't see it then make sure that it hasn't been disabled in the bios then try another lead, see if any of that helps. |
