My DVD drive (D:) wont read disks any more PLEASE HELP!

hello,

my DVD-ROM drive is failing to read any disks, when i insert a disk it just sounds like its slowly struggling and then stops completly and while theres a disk in and i manually go to D: drive in my computer it just says 'please insert disk into D:'

when i go onto device manager and onto DVD/CD-ROM drives it shows 5 things

- H+H DVD-ROM DVD-41SD SCSI CdRom Device
- H+H DVD-ROM DVD-41SD SCSI CdRom Device
- H+H DVD-ROM DVD-41SD SCSI CdRom Device
- HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8483B
- HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR 8162B

i dont no if thats any help but i thought ide type it anyway. i have already tried to unistall them and restart my computer but it doesnt work

please help

My System

It looks like you have to many devices there and possibly more than you need. Whilst it is possible that this is causing your problem it might just be a red herring.
I would first delete all the devices under the CD/DVD ROM heading, you'll have to do it one by one.
When you have finished you can do a scan for new hardware changes and it should just bring back one of the drives.
I assume that you haven't got multiple CD /DVD drives, but anyway it's a good thing to remove duplicates.
You might find that a head cleaning CD might help if the drive is an old one that has seen much use.
Please also advise if this is a laptop drive or a Desktop drive.

Try reinstalling your motherboard chipset drivers, as I think your IDE drivers got corrupted. After that before restarting, delete the devices from your computer and let Windows find them once again upon reboot.
