Pioneer 111D reads CDs but not DVDs?

Hi all.

My drive is about 2 months old, it was working great until I installed a program called cyberlink power dvd, after that my drive just suddently stopped reading DVDs but CD's read fine.

I uninstalled the software, and my dvd drive but no luck.

Another thing that i think could be wrong is, the last DVD disc i put in seemed to be dirty (it had a bit of that plastic sticky stuff on it, the stuff you find CD's stuck to on magazines.) But if a dirty lens were the case, my CD's wouldnt be able to read either right?

any solutions? thanks

Try unistalling it from the device manager and reinstall it with updated drivers from the manufactures website.

It's unlikely that a dirty DVD will contaminate the lens since there is no physical contact.
When it comes to cyberlink, I seem to remember that I had a cyberdrive DVD which refused to read data although DVD movies were fine. I bought a new Drive and that worked with both data DVD's and movies.

there is a possibility that the program you installed has corrupted the DVD driver on your PC, so I would try to do a driver re-install or update to see if that is the problem.
If your DVD ROM is just a reader, I would suggest that you borrow a friends Drive and see if it works on your PC and maybe check out your DVD-ROM on his/hers. When electronic parts decide to stop working they give no warnings .. a quick clean of the lens might help, it depends upon how the DVD was manufactured. Some have a dual lens which shuffles between CD & DVD, others have a single lens and will read CD's quite well whilst being unable to read DVD's. A DVD is far more critical of focus and speed than a CD.
