dvd media

I have just bought a new dvd burner and I am a little confused about the difference between dvd-r and dvd+r. I read that you have to format the dvd-r. Does that mean you have to manually format the disc before you can burn to it? I did burn one using windows movie maker. I did not format the disc. When I put a blank disc in and check properties it shows no free space but 0 bytes. I'm confused. All help will be appreciated.

Cool

You do not format these disks, not unless they are re-writable disks, and DVD -r are the format more likely to work in most players where the +r tend to not work in as many players.
