DVD+-RW will not open/eject
I have a Philips DVD+-RW DVD8631. The drive was working just fine last week, and I was able to successfully burn a few CDs and DVDs. Today, the drive no longer opens/ejects when I hit the open/eject button. The green light does not come on, but you can hear what sounds like a motor that's stuck.
I've also tried manually opening the drive with a paperclip to insert readable media. When the door is open, the close buttons works only some of the time. When it does work, the door will usually only close part way and I will still have to shut the door with my hand. Regardless, the drive also fails to read any CDs or DVDs. However, it is still being recognized by my computer's BIOS and still shows up as a drive in My Computer. Right clicking and ejecting via software also produces the same struggling motor sound. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers and have no idea what to do now. It looks like the device is receiving power, but I can't figure out what's going on. Could the motor be dead? Is it time to buy a new DVD+-RW? Thanks. |

It sounds like the motor or tray mechanism has failed.
Do not open it or try to fix it. Remember there's a laser in there. Owing to what they cost to repace, its not cost effective to have them fixed. Get a new one.
