My CD won't boot in bios command
I am on my bios command screen trying to get my cd rom to boot from there and my drive letter is d however the bios screen starts with the A: command and then i am under the asumption i need to type in my D: drive after that to get my cd rom to boot up.
Now my questions are: Why is A: the first part of the command instead of C: ??? And when i do type D: my cd rom still won't boot. When the bios command screen comes up with A:\> it is followed by incorrect bios version When we type D: after A:\< it says invalid drive specification |

Hmm Ok
Reading what you say and reading between the lines if your screen shows A:> or any other letter come to that you are not in Bios, your in DOS. Restart your machine and whatch the start up closely at some point it will say "Press DEL to enter setup" (It may tell you to press F2 not all systems are the same.) You will be taken to a screen which will offer to make all kinds of changes to your system. The rule here is If you don't understand what you are changeing don't change it!! The exact navigation is different for differing BIOSes Since I don't know what your BIOS is I cant offer specfic instructions. Work through the options looking for "BOOT" you will (usually) be offered three choices of boot device in your case change the first boot device to CDrom. Again without knowing which BIOS you have I can tell you exactly what to do next but think in terms of save settings and exit. restart the system with a bootable CD in the drive and it should work.

Yes, DOS not BIOS, sorry
Hello.
Yes your absolutely right it is the DOS screen. I have been doing so much in BIOS, the word is imprinted in my brain. My BIOS version is IBM NVKT47.0 Have you read all my posts here and in other threads to see what I am up against and what I have done so far and still haven't been able to correct the problem. If not Please do, any bit of advice and help testing, verifying etc...is greatly appreciated. Also when we do get the CD ROM going we go ahead and try to install it and it performs a compatability test and gives us this report: MICROSOFT WINDOWS UPGRADE ADVISOR Report System Compatability -the following items are not compatible with windows XP. Set up cannot continue. Resolve the compatable issue with each item before running setup again. X(symbol) seup information file D:\i386\compdata\NTCompat.INF is invalid Contact your system administrator THANKS AGAIN Brenda-Lynn |

Hi brendalynnn
Is the cd-rom drive original and if so, did you check this link for the firmware upgrades? IBM There's also a bios update listed. You'll have to compare dates to see which is newer. Either or both could be affecting your cd-rom recognition issues. You sort of left the other thread hanging. I assure you, if you visit the site, the info is there. Some of the links seem broken, documents are listed as unavailable, but it is there. You may have to enter your product info to get it but it is there. Quote:

Brendalynn.
When you first turn on your machine. It does the memory count up thing and detects the harddrives. Does the CDrom show up in the drive list as "ATAPI"? If not then that would be your problem.
