Drive does recognise DVD_RAM

Hi does anyone else have this problem, I have a HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GSA-4166B [CD-ROM drive] and it was recognising Panasonic DVD-RAM discs then it suddenly stopped for some reason, it works perfectly with all other discs except this format, I tried a Maxell DVD-RAM disc with no sucess any suggestions most welcome, Win xp OS

Yeah it seems to be a puzzler, I uninstalled INcD as I was told that could be the problem , but no joy, I am using Nero 7 and in the tool window it also says no disc in drive, I will check out your link thanks
