Is comcast a anti-virus program too? If it is, this is where your problem lies. Un-install one.
If you do that, and it is still slow, you may have spyware. Read through this: http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=15968
Then post a HJT log here:

it appears that my computor hangs is connected to a problem with my CD/RW drive because whin it hangs the light is on and my cd/rw wont open up at all

Hi there...it may not be related to the cd drive at all. It may not open as your CPU is being overworked by other processes on your PC.

As the problem has only started since you installed McAfee, it could be a resource issue. Would you be able to reply to this post with some more details on your PC such as system specs (RAM, CPU, Motherboard etc)?

that makes it granpa age
it should still open and close, try another power plug in it
if there is a small pin hole on the front gentley push a needle in until you feel it contact the the trip and see if it opens,is there a chance you have jammed a cd in it
