DVD drive won't run ANY CDs or DVDs (Driver problem?)

Hi. I've been asking on another forum, and this is what I originally posted:

I think it will load if I restart the computer, but you can imagine how annoying it is to want to switch games and having to restart the entire computer.

So my question is this. Has anybody else had this problem or knows how to fix it? I don't want to system restore TOO far back as I have no idea what causes it and I don't want to lose things I've made and such, but this is EXTREMELY annoying. I just wanted to boot up Warcraft III!

I am not a very technical guy, so please try to walk me through any steps if at all possible. I can't disassemble my computer (although if necessary I can purchase a new drive) so please no techno jargon. I will try my best, though.
Now, another forum member asked me to check the drivers I had. He wanted to know if there was a gearaspi.sys. And sure enough...

The Device Manager calls it a _NEC DV-5700B if that helps...
Those were the drivers that showed up when I followed his steps. He told me to get rid of GEARaspiWDM.sys, there was a lot of registry editing involved. Just uninstalling what put it there (which, in all honesty, I don't know what did) wouldn't help. So I came to this forum hoping that perhaps someone here had any more ideas/clues/anything. Again, I just want to play some Warcraft III!

PS: I do hope this is the right forum...

My System

Hello,

A couple of quick questions:
Does the drive still open/close? Also, does it show up in My Computer? If it does not show up there, does it show up in BIOS?

When did it seem to stop working? Was it when you added another device to the computer?

Finally, what is the make/model of your PSU? Also, what is the wattage and amps on the rails; the amps can be found on the label on the side of the power supply.

Also, this would probably be better handled in the Removable Media section, so I'll ask a moderator to move it for you.

The drive opens/closes, and shows up on My Computer. As for when it stopped working, I honestly don't know. I know if I could remember it would probably solve the problem pretty quickly.

I hate to sound stupid, but what's a PSU? And rails and amps? What? I just don't know...

PSU is your power supply. It's that metal box in your computer that the cable from the wall outlet directly connects to. There should be a fairly large label on it that has all the info on its rails and amps.
