Hi, and welcome to TSF!

Your DVD-ROM drive will not recognize a DVD-RAM unless it has the hardware to understand it in the same way that a plain old CD-ROM drive cannot read a DVD. Bit a DVD+-RW should. What drive do you have?

DVD-RW should be able to read it, although some can't. Try updating the driver. Also, what format is the DVD-RAM. It should be in FAT32 for Windows to recognize it. What error do you get when trying to read it?

You shouldn't need DVD software to read a DVD-RAM. Have you tried that disk in another computer with a DVD-RW or have you tried another DVD-RAM disk in that drive?

reading the reviews there is no mention of it having ram capability
