Question Sony DVD DRU 700A does not recognise when disc inserted

Hi

can anyone help - my Sony DVD burner (DRU700A) has stopped recognising when discs are inserted, and will not read anything. It keeps telling me to 'insert disc'.
I run XP with SP2, and I have tried uninstalling the driver, changing the IDE cables over, removing the drive completely and re attaching, checking the devce manager (which shows it as connected and the drive appears in the folder / drive list of explorer).
My sep. CD-rom drive works find, but I need my DVD back - has any one any suggestions to help get it back working.
I hope it's just a software thing as nothing has happened to make me think there is a hardware issue.

thanks for your help

Will regular cds work? If so that would indicate that the dvd laser is
kaput or obstructed. If neither will work that means both lasers are
obstructed, and or kaput,,,,,

No Cannot seem to get any ordinary CD's to work either, was hoping that it would be a software issue, because I have managed to get it to burn a dvd once since it's been acting up, but it went back to non reading once I rebooted the computer

You can try uninstalling your burning software. Sometimes uninstalling then reinstalling this software will fix this.

I've got the same problem. I'm fairly sure it's not a software problem, it hasn't worked with any of the softwares I've tried.

I am having the same problem. Nothing happens when I put a CD in my Sony burner. The green light does not even glow. I have tried everything and my burner is only 2 months old.
