DVD RW problems

last spring (05) i installed a new drive, i replaced my CD burner with a DVD burner, leaving my normal DVD player. several months later, august or September the drive quit working, it would not read or write any type of disk. sense then i have been trying every thing i could think of to get it running again. recently some one gave me the idea to do restore to when it was functioning properly. So if you have any ideas on this they would be greatly appreciated

the New drive is a Sony DVD RW DRU-710A it was installed professionally by best buy.
The other drive is a toshiba DVD-ROM SD-M1612
My system is a sony vaio desktop

Suggestion

you could try uninstalling the hardware...

Right click My computer
properties
hardware
device manager

Find the dvd drive and right click on it. it should show option to uninstall it.

uninstall it....

Now restart you computer, it will find and reinstall your DVD Drive and everything work fine...

My System

Does the drive show up in My Computer? If it does not, then the cable may have gotten dislodged.

If it does show up, but does not read discs, then there could be a problem with the drive. You can try going and buying a drive cleaning kit- about $10-15. It looks like a CD with a special brush on one side and some cleaning solution. Follow the directions and try to clean the drive.

Let us know how if it's still broken and we can go from there.

About stuff beibg seen in My Computer

Here's something that happened to me more than once: I knew the CD player was plugged in and had power, but would not show up in My Computer. I could put an (F:) in the address bar of windows explorer and it would show it. ???
