Dead DVD-R/RW Drive...Requesting Major Help...

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 Notebook computer. It comes equipped with a the sony DW-D56A slim DVD/RW drive. I reformatted my computer and everything was working fine. Once I got to the point where I had to flash my dvd drive to the latest version things got bad. Im pretty sure it was close to being completed as all the bars in the flash program were filled but then it just froze. I couldnt open anything although the mouse was able to move around. So i shut down the laptop improperly but using the power button. When I booted up the computer couldnt recognize my dvd drive and I was told to a) firmly push the modular bay in and reboot or b) escape disregarding the changes. Now i knew the flash program screwed up the dvd drive. As windows loaded up i checked under my hardware list and the drive wouldnt show up. In "MY computer" the drive wouldnt show up, and in the bios it wouldnt show up. The drive doesnt eject nor do any of the lights come on.

Now im afrad the drive is dead and I will have to purchase a new one. But if there is anything I can do with you guys assistance I would really appreaciate it. I have heard of some instances in which people were able to recover there hardware during a corrupted flash, so hopefully it will work for me. Thanks in advance.
