Can I use DDR2 PC2 RAM in place of DDR PC RAM?
Can I put the original DDR2 PC2-5300 RAM from my Toshiba Portege in to my old Toshiba A35 that uses DDR PC 2700 RAM?

No you cannot, DDR and DDR2 are physically incompatible and won't fit into the same slot.
