Black Screen after XP load-up

Well my moms computer is acting funny, i'm not sure what caused this to occur but what its doing is, it boots up normally and goes through the windows XP screen with the bar going across, but then immediately after that the monitor just goes into a sleep state (green light turns orange) and nothing else happens, the computer stays on but nothing ever happens, I got it to boot in safe mode and did a command scan with avg and it removed 1 trojan it said but still it won't work. Any ideas as to what to do? quick help would be great because if i have no solution in about 20 hours i'm going to format it and my mom will lose valuable information.

Re: Black Screen after XP load-up

you need to post the specs

first thoughts would be the psu has a degraded 12v+ line and no longer supplies enough power

tap f8 when booting and try

last known good configuration

Re: Black Screen after XP load-up

you need to post the specs

take the side off the computer and look at the psu label for the details

the m/b name should be silkscreened on the m/b

see what this gives you if you can install it from safe mode
